The yellow brown variety of grossular is called hessonite due to manganese and iron inclusions.

Hardness: -7.0

Appearance:
It is a honey yellow or yellow brown color, sometimes tending to a pinkish orange color. It has a good luster and a good transparency. The gem is given all kind of shapes.

Occurrence:
The best quality hessonites are from Sri Lanka, but are also found in USA, Canada and Brazil.

Value:
The value of hessonite is rather low.
